Special Abilities: Living Fully With Down Syndrome

Episode 1: Meet Kristin & Marc

Meet Kristin Ong, 32, and Marc Williams, 19, two young adults living fully with Down Syndrome. In episode one, we discover Kristin's love of fairy tales, movies, singing, and coloring; and Marc's love of sports (including Special Olympics basketball), dance, pro wrestling, and pasta.

Episode 2: Family

Family is everything to people with special needs. Kristin shares about her love for her mom and her conflicting feelings about living with Down Syndrome. Also, her cousin/caretaker, Michael, has his own ups and downs providing support for Kristin while living with a disability

Episode 3: Basketball

Marc and his Mom share about his athletic abilities as a player on the Burbank Special Olympics Basketball Team. With commentary from Coach Douglas Sarine, we learn what makes Marc a great team player, how he is a big fan of the LA Lakers, and how sports can be the perfect "person first" activity for members of the disabilities and Down Syndrome communities.

Episode 4: Memory Lane

Kristin and her cousin Michael take a stroll down memory lane while looking through old pictures in a photo album. Kristin reminisces about her popular days in high school, and laments about her struggles with college enrollment and entering a day program. She also shares her hopes to go back to school and travel again in the future.

Episode 5: Dancing

Marc performs with the Free 2 Be Me dancers at the Very Special Arts Festival at the Music Center in downtown LA. Marc's Mom shares about his talent and special abilities as a dancer, from a very young age. With commentary from Dance Instructor Colleen Perry, we learn what makes Marc an exceptional dancer, and why dance is a great activity for people living with disabilities and Down Syndrome.

Episode 6: Fairy Tales and Magic

Kristin reveals her love of fairy tales and magic by showing us her favorite cosplay costumes and sharing her love of all things Disney. She talks about her dreams of becoming a Hollywood actress and a Disneyland princess. Kristin and her cousin, Michael, visit the Hollywood Walk of Fame and El Capitan Theatre to see "The Little Mermaid."

Episode 7: God & Church

Kristin and Marc share their faith in God and talk about church. We learn about the ministry that Kristin and Marc have been a part of, Family and Friends of People with Disabilities (FFPD), and we meet ministry leader Emma Guanlao, and Reverend Peter Rogers from St. Dominic church. At Mass, Kristin performs the task of the cantor, leading the church in the responsorial psalm. After Mass, the ministry has a picnic on the patio with food, music, and face painting.
