Episode 16: Jason Leith
In this episode of Creating Sacred Beauty, we sit down with portrait artist Jason Leith, whose powerful "relational portraits" are transforming the lives of people experiencing homelessness and poverty. Instead of simply drawing someone's face, Jason spends hours listening to their story, seeing their dignity, and creating artwork that reminds them of their God-given worth.
From Skid Row in Los Angeles to shelters and resource centers, Jason shares how these portrait sessions have led people to seek rehab, reconnect with family, and rediscover hope. His work is a beautiful reminder that sacred art isn't confined to church walls—it can meet people exactly where they are.

Episode 15: Michael Spooner
From He-Man to Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers to VeggieTales — Michael Spooner spent decades designing the visual worlds behind some of the most beloved animated films and shows, guided by his faith all the while. As a visual development artist, brought his Christian faith into every Hollywood studio and animation project he worked on — without ever having to say a word about it.
Michael's résumé reads like a highlight reel of animation history: Ralph Bakshi's Lord of the Rings, DreamWorks’ Shrek, and eventually a leadership role at Big Idea Productions on VeggieTales — back when it and Pixar were the only two 3D animation studios on the planet. But this episode isn't just a behind-the-scenes look at concept art (though you'll get plenty of that, sketchbook and all). It's a conversation about what it actually looks like to be "salt and light of the world” in a competitive, ego-driven industry — and how quiet faithfulness can open doors you never expected.

Episode 14: Fr. Fidelis Omeaku
Can hip hop and rap become a powerful tool for evangelization?
In this episode of Creating Sacred Beauty, we meet Fr. Fidelis Omeaku, a Catholic priest, recording artist, and evangelizer who is using rap, Afrobeat-gospel, and contemporary hip hop to bring people closer to Christ.
We get into the real questions too: What do you say to people who think gospel and rap don't belong together? How do you balance full-time parish ministry with an actual music career? And what does it look like when a 2 a.m. voice memo turns into a finished Afrobeat-gospel track? Fr. Fidelis walks us through his entire creative process — from the original idea, to sending it to his producer back in Nigeria, to writing lyrics rooted in joy even in hard seasons, all the way to the final studio recording.

In this episode of Creating Sacred Beauty, we visit the Sister Disciples of the Divine Master and meet Sr. Emmanuel and Sr. Tiziana, whose ministry is dedicated to preserving and promoting the beauty of the Church through liturgical and devotional art. From sacred vessels used at Mass to handcrafted vestments, icons, mosaics, and devotional images, their work helps draw hearts closer to Christ and reminds us that beauty is a powerful form of evangelization.
These sisters don't just make beautiful things, they're living out a 100-year-old charism founded by Blessed James Alberione, blending contemplative prayer with hands-on artistry. You'll see the symbolism behind a stunning alabaster monstrance and chalice set, hear the story of a sculpture inspired by Mary, Queen of the Apostles, and learn why their "Bethany House" ministry of hospitality is at the heart of everything they create.

Episode 7: Razzouk Tattoo
In the heart of Jerusalem lies the oldest tattoo parlor in the world: Razzouk Tattoo. Today, 27th-generation tattoo artist Wassim Razzouk carries on his family’s legacy of creating sacred art through tattoo art. In this episode of Creating Sacred Beauty, we learn about the fascinating history of this centuries-old artform and how it has evolved into the beloved Holy Land staple it is today.
We recognize that the subject of tattoos as a form of art can be controversial. However, the Razzouk family, who have been tattooing for over 700 years, offer a powerful perspective rooted in faith and tradition. What began as a means of identifying members of the Coptic Christian community has evolved into a meaningful art form—one that expresses a person’s belief, heritage, and spiritual journey. We felt their story was both compelling and deeply appropriate for inclusion in this series.
It's important to remember that getting a tattoo is a lifelong commitment. Tattoos are not easily removed, and anyone considering one should give the decision serious thought. We encourage individuals to discuss it with trusted family members or loved ones beforehand.
In the United States, it is illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to get a tattoo, although some states allow it with parental consent. Regardless of age or legality, the decision to receive a tattoo—even one tied to faith—should be made with care, reflection, and a clear understanding of its significance.
