It's hard enough to get anyone to listen to your series idea, let alone get it funded, produced and streaming on Roku Channel. But, Catholic actress/writer/producer Christin Jezak did just that with Our Ladies Show.
You might say, though, that she was born with storytelling in her blood.
Both Jezak's father and her vovó (her Portuguese grandmother) were very passionate about theater and performing arts.
Carrying on the family legacy, Jezak joined them onstage in the cast of Annie when she was only eight. That was it. She was hooked. Storytelling had captured her heart, as it had done for generations in her family.
From Massachusetts to Hollywood
So, Jezak moved across the country from her native Masschusetts to shoot her shot in Hollywood (and also keep her Catholic faith front and center). There, she gained training in editing, distribution, marketing, producing, and directing (IMDB page here).
She even gained expertise in accounting to help organize receipts and balance the books (an underrated skill in showbiz).
But after 13 years in Hollywood, Jezak started to notice a change.
“It was really hard to find projects I felt good about,” she says.
But if no one will give you the project you want, you can always create the project you want.
Perfect timing, too, because God had been stirring up an idea for an inspirational sketch comedy series. This was her chance.
“This is my time to do something I want to put my face and my name on,” Jezak remembers thinking. “One that really brings light to the world rather than darkness.”
Creating Our Ladies Show
So, in 2022, Jezak shot a pilot alongside her costars Hillary Hawkins and Sarah Hernandez. The other six episodes quickly followed suit. And just like that, Our Ladies Show was born, and it was everything Jezak could have hoped for.
“I love comedy," she says, "and it was really fun getting to create with the people I was with. The other two ladies are such a blast, and we just had so much fun.
"There were times we would unexpectedly do things in one take and we were like, ‘Can’t do it again, because that’s it. That was gold.’”
The comedy is there, for sure, but the meat and potatoes of this series is its ability speak truth and encouragement to women of all ages.
Celebrating Women as Daughters of God
Jezak has always had a heart for pouring into women. Growing up, she used to lead ladies’ nights with the youth group at her church. She wanted to make sure women understood their invaluable worth as a daughter of God — which is the resounding message in Our Ladies Show.
“In my own personal journey in healing, understanding the fact that I’m beautiful, that I’m fearfully and wonderfully made ... I wanted to make sure that every woman felt that way. That’s part of my own personal mission.”
Every episode of Our Ladies Show has a different theme that targets real-world issues women face daily — from beauty to comparison to holding grudges to anxiety.
Each episode starts with a comedic opening monologue by one of the cast members. It’s followed by Scripture-inspired sketches and then tied together by a vulnerable, unscripted conversation with the cast
“It’s a little talk show, a lot of sketch, a lot of love, and hopefully a lot of laughs,” Jezak says.
After four years in the making, Our Ladies Show is now streaming on The Roku Channel, complete with downloadable discussion guides created by Jezak herself.
Taking Neighborhood Watch to the Next Level
The show grew out of Jezak's web series Neighborhood Watch, which has won several honors. From OSV News:
“Neighborhood Watch” — the sketch comedy segment of the show, which was released as a standalone series on Youtube before “Our Ladies” premiered — won best web or TV series at the Paris Film Awards, Best Web Series at the New Media Film Festival, and has won awards at other festivals, including the London Movie Awards, Florence Film Awards and Hollywood Gold Awards.
The show received three nominations at the 2025 Content Christian Media Conference, including a nomination for Jezak as Best Actress in a TV and Web Series.
What’s next? Only God knows. But if Jezak’s hopes and dreams come true (again!), we’ll see a second season of Our Ladies Show or see comedic YouTube series Neighborhood Watch evolve into its own half-hour sitcom.
“I’d really love to see that happen.”
QUICK QUESTIONS WITH CHRISTIN JEZAK
Favorite character in OLS:
All of these characters came out of my heart, so it’s really hard to say that I have a favorite. But I will say that I have favorites...In Neighborhood Watch I love Josie the nosy neighbor and Kimberly, the overwhelmed mom with the army of children. And then I also love the flight attendants, Sandy and Kelly. And I love, love, love the two past reigning beauty queens, Deborah Louise Parker and Kaye Kittheart.
Favorite people to work with (besides the OLS cast, of course):
Cloris Leachman, Jon Voight, Greg Garcia, and Garret Dillahunt.
The people who inspire her most:
Mother Teresa, St. Therese of Lisieux, St. Pope John Paul II, and The Chosen creator Dallas Jenkins.
Favorite part about making her own show:
Finding people with the same goals, heart, and mission in Hollywood. Some of those sketches we would film in one or two takes and I was dying laughing. But you can’t laugh on set because the audio will pick it up so I was literally doubled over trying my hardest not to laugh but totally dying every single time.
Hardest part about making her own show:
Oh, definitely the responsibility of having to figure out how to fund it all.
Favorite film she’s been in:
Paul Blart Mall Cop.
Favorite film she’s not in:
The Money Pit or National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.
Childhood inspirations:
Bette Midler, Whoopi Goldberg, Lucille Ball.
First movie she ever made:
For the Sake of the Gospel (aired on EWTN)
