‘Catholic classic’ The Blues Brothers
to screen at Prayer and Pasta July 21
July 13, 2010
On the heels of the 1980 cult classic film
The Blues Brothers being declared a “Catholic classic” by the editor of the Vatican newspaper, Family Theater Productions will show the film at its next Prayer and Pasta on July 21.
Throughout the film Jake and Elwood (Dan Aykroyd and the late John Belushi) declare “we’re on a mission from God.” Observing the 30th anniversary of the film’s release, Gian Maria Vian, editor of L’Osservatore Romano, in an editorial praised the plot. The Blues brothers put together Jake’s old band to raise the funds to save the Catholic orphanage in which they grew up; nothing stands in the way of their zany caper to acquire and deliver the money.
Prayer and Pasta is held the third Wednesday of the month, offering nourishment for the body and soul of young Catholics trying to make a difference in the entertainment industry. The evening begins with a Catholic prayer service, often a Holy Hour, followed by a home-made pasta meal and then a talk by an industry veteran or spiritual leader or a film screening.
